
You offer living wages to your staff based on your geographical location and the opportunity to make more. You adjust your compensation based on merit and offer annual cost of living adjustments. Your staff is provided with a total compensation report and they fully understand their compensation model. You follow all rules and regulations of W-2 employees or Independent Contractor laws. Gratuities are logged and kept in a secure location if staff does not receive them right away. You offer a variety of monetary and non-monetary benefits and perks to your employees, and have a regular performance review plan in place.
Our member employers are guided by ethics in all decision-making in their business. Business owners and managers are fair and display integrity. Business owners agree to support the ethical development of the employee-employer relationship based on mutual respect and trust. Member agrees to offer USOLMT's membership to their staff at the discounted rate of $10/month per employee, and to develop their managers and administrative staff to their fullest potential so they are capable of understanding and supporting service providers to the best of their ability.
We know that when employees are well taken care of, they take care of the clients. Customer dissatisfaction is an indication of employee dissatisfaction. Employer members agree to offer an accurate and legitimate service menu, to provide customary gratuity information in each room and at checkout, to have a cancellation policy that includes paying providers for late cancellations, and to provide enough time in between appointments for a thorough intake, consent, treatment notes, written home care instructions, and cleaning / disinfecting the treatment room. Employer's public customer reviews will be checked upon joining. Support may be provided to raise customer review ratings if the business does not meet an 80% success rate or higher.
Your facility is cleaned regularly, you use EPA-Approved disinfectants that are not harmful to your staff or clients, you take steps to protect your staff from infectious disease, including Covid-19, you follow all local, state, and federal guidelines, adhere to OSHA standards, and train staff on Universal Precautions. You have a biohazard clean up kit, gloves, and masks on hand for your staff and a fully stocked first aid kit on site. At least one person on your staff is CPR certified. The temperature of your location is comfortable for your staff of providers (70-76 degrees), and your facility is pest-free. Your equipment is well-maintained and in good working order as are your tools, and your facility is free of hazards to staff and the public.
Member employers agree to use progressive discipline with staff. Progressive discipline includes a verbal warning, written warning, and finally, termination for employees who are not meeting expectations. If there are emergency or extenuating circumstances where progressive discipline cannot be used, you have clearly outlined, in advance to your staff in employee handbooks, the reasons why they may be terminated on the spot.
Member employers agree look for burnout signs in their employees and have a plan to assist the employee in recovery. Recovery from burnout may include time off, extended breaks, longer meal periods, and employer support including listening without judgement and adjusting what you can to assist the employee. You understand that severe burnout recovery may include mental health services in addition to a prolonged physical recovery plan.
Member employers agree to take USOLMT'S "How to separate your business from Human Trafficking" course and to stay informed of red flags. Member employers also agree to have a written sexual harassment policy in their handbook, to do thorough annual background and license verification checks on provider staff, to know and look for signs of prostitution and inappropriate behavior towards clients, and to train staff on preventing sexual and inappropriate client complaints.
Employer also agrees to support the therapist's right of refusal to treat clients who make them feel uncomfortable, and to report any sexual solicitation that occurs within the business to law enforcement immediately. Employer also agrees to report instances of massage therapists soliciting clients or making inappropriate sexual advances towards clients to the State Board of Massage Therapy or other Governing Board immediately. Employer members are encouraged to use the Respect Massage logo and stickers in their marketing, on their doors, and on their sexual harassment policies.
